How to Make Instant Pot Wheat Berries

Last month I posted my favorite whole wheat pancake recipe using hard whole wheat. I promised in that post to share with you how to make Instant Pot Wheat Berries . A recipe that you definitely need to add to your arsenal for working through those buckets of food storage you may have on hand.
I had no intention of not posting for a month, in fact, I was gung ho and full of hope at the early onset of our mass quarantine. I had visions (cough, cough delusions) of getting so much done.
Fast forward to now, and I am hanging in there. But my ability to sit down and write has been diminished. I blame my adorable and extremely lovable new coworkers. They are very talented in the art of distraction.
I feel torn and ripped in a million directions. I have never in my years of motherhood ever dreamed of being a homeschooling Mom.

On to why y’all came her in the first place – WHEAT BERRIES!
Wheat berries are a powerhouse of nutrition. Since only the hull has been removed, wheat berries pack quite the nutritional punch. A half-cup of cooked wheat berries contains 3.5 g protein, 4.3 g of fiber, and only 111 calories. They are also loaded with antioxidants, vitamin E and magnesium, which are vital for bone and muscles. {source}
Wheat Berries are a breeze to make in an Instant Pot or Slow Cooker. Which is my favorite way to make them!
How To Make Instant Pot Wheat Berries:
With only two ingredients, Instant Pot Wheat Berries are a breeze to throw together and make a nutrient-packed breakfast.
For every one cup of hard wheat kernels, you will need 3 cups of water. You can easily double or triple the amount made.
Place water and kernals into your instant pot and set for 35 minutes on the manual setting. Once completed, let it naturally release for 5-10 minutes.

- 1 Cup Whole Wheat Kernals
- 3 Cups Water
Instructions

Add water + wheat kernels to Instant Pot

Set pressure cooker to manual for 35 minutes

Let Natural Release for 5-10 minutes
How long are wheat berries good for?
Wheat berries can be kept in the fridge in an air tight container for up to a week. You can also freeze them and keep them for up to a month. Which makes them a great candidate for meal prepping!
How to Eat Wheat Berries?
I enjoy them as a hot cereal much like oatmeal. My favorite way to eat them is with a bit of peanut butter and honey. But really you can top them with what every you like.
These really are super easy to throw together and are a treat! The texture is a bit different at first. But I have really come to love it.
